Parenting Classes
The Family Resource Center offers a variety free Parenting Classes on different topics. Pre registration is required for all courses.
New Parent Support:
- Boot Camp for New Dads Veteran dads and their newborns orient rookie dads who are expecting their first child.
- Newborn Baby Care Class- This course focuses on feeding, diapering, developmental issues, medical care, child care choices and safety concerns for your new infant.
- First Steps Together A support group for parents of newborns (to walking). Share your experiences with others.
- Healthy Families - This program helps to ensure new parents get their babies off to a good start in life and has been effective in enhancing a childs growth and development, strengthening families and making parents better able to utilize community resources in caring for their children.
Parenting Classes:
- 1,2,3,4 Parents! /1,2,3,4, Padres! Offered in English and Spanish this five-week course is for parents of children ages 1-4 years old. Topics include: age appropriate behaviors, parent/child relationships, how to handle tantrums, and safety prevention tips.
- Active Parenting Today/ Padre Activos De Hoy! Offered in English and Spanish, this seven-week class is for parents of children 5-12 years old. Topics include: increasing courage and self-esteem, positive discipline techniques, eliminating power struggles
- Parenting Your Teen - A six -week class for parents of teenagers 12-18. Topics include: Behavior management, adolescent development, teaching responsibility & good judgement, communication and listening skills.
- Parenting Children with ADHD this 6- week class focuses on the signs and symptoms of ADHD, getting help for your child, treating ADHD at home and school and medication information
- Parent Anger Management This 6 week class teaches parents to use the problem solving approach to understanding anger identifying hidden anger and how to avoid power struggles.
- Alphabet Soup - A weekly parent support group for parents of children who have been diagnosed with psychiatric diagnosis such as ADHD, ADD, OCD, BPD and others.
Families in Transition:
- Blending Families for Success This 6 week couples class is for anyone who is going to be blending or has already combined a family. Topics include: unique nature of the family, uniting as a couple/family, discipline, communication and feelings, dealing with ex-spouses and handling stress.
- Co-Parenting through Divorce This 8 week video based, psycho-educational curriculum is designed to assist divorced parents in reducing parental conflict and the risk factors that influence the childs post-divorce adjustment. There is a workbook fee for this course.
