The Child Crisis Center has always been committed to preventing child abuse and neglect. Every program we’ve developed through the years has had prevention as a primary goal. Sheltering children, supporting and strengthening families, and educating the community are our primary target areas that we have emphasized through a multitude of programs.

Over 9,400 children’s lives have been touched because of their stay in our large, busy home – whether for a few days, a few months or for several years. Our staff and volunteers work together to create an atmosphere of security, acceptance and encouragement so our kids feel safe.

Emergency Shelter
The Center’s Emergency Shelter provides 24-hour care to children, birth through eleven years old in a home-like atmosphere and consists of a “Babies and Toddlers” home (birth to 3 yrs) and a “Big Kids Home” (4 to 11 yrs). Each of these units has 15 beds (30 total) of which some are allocated to Child Protective Services and others are available for community placement. Specially trained staff and volunteers care for the children and address developmental deficits by using teaching materials that are developmentally appropriate. Clinical staff meet one-on-one for play therapy sessions. School age children attend local elementary schools and after-school tutoring is provided for children who are learning delayed. Sports, Field trips and other seasonal activities are provided as well.

Group Home
Established in 1995, the Group Home houses 12 boys between the ages of 4 and 12. The Center maintains physical custody of these children until a more permanent foster/adoption placement can be made. Counselors and youth care workers provide high quality, consistent care to the children. Each has been trained extensively on the behavioral challenges presented by these children. Each child has an assigned counselor who develops a treatment plan specific to that child’s needs for the duration of the child’s time at the Center. The Group Home is an active busy place and we strive to provide a supportive, loving family environment.

Respite Care
Our newest program that provides 24-hour respite care for families using our community beds for children ages 0-11. Children can stay in a community bed for up to 3 days (72hours). This program also provides Respite on University available on Fridays, Saturdays and or Sundays for up to 8 hours. This program is available for boys and girls from 3-11 years of age.
